Noah's Flood - four views of the flood
1. Historic global catastrophe
2. Historical local catastrophe
3. Historical global peaceful flood
4. Myth

He is focusing on the fact that it was a global catastrophe

Genesis 6:7,13 KJV
[7] And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. [13] And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Genesis 7:1 KJV
[1] And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

The ark was not a little floating bathtub!

It was one and a half football fields long and half a football field wide. It was about the size of 500 eighteen-wheel trucks.

Character of the flood, it was to destroy the Earth.

Genesis 7:11 KJV
[11] In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

The flood lasted a whole year.

The primary source of the water was probably from fountains of the great deep. Which was most likely some sort of earthquake.

Depth of the flood;
Genesis 7:19-20 KJV
[19] And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. [20] Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.

The Rainbow Promise

Universal Terms used 60 times
Duration of Flood
Landing of Ark
Command to repopulate the earth.
All of the people of earth came from the 8 people on the ark.

Billions I'd dead things buried in rock layers layer down by water all over the earth.

Millions of years is really Noah's flood.

Early 18th Century views of earth history
1. Biblical/traditional view earth is 6000 years.

2. Catastrophist view millions of years.

3. Uniformitarian view millions of years, slow gradual change if earth. Started in 1840 at the university level, it was training that this was the correct view.

Quote from a famous British geologist Derek Ager. "We have allowed ourselves to be brain washed into avoiding any interpretation of the past that involves extreme and what might be termed catastrophic"

One said geography is more made up in our minds then in nature.

Anti biblical views come with an old earth.

Biblical views support a young earth.

"Fossilization is a process that can take anything from a few hours to millions of years." This was a quote from an evolutionist, which clearly the second half could not be observed.

How long does it take to form and erode rocks? Professor Coleman said the rock was forming faster than anybody had ever believed possible. With one stone creating itself in 6 months.

How long for erosion? It was proposed that the The Scablands in Washington were eroded in one to two weeks.

The dogma of geologist is Unitarianism.

He says most people are looking through the wrong lenses.

Lack of erosion.
Living ocean bottom ecology
Lack of life disturbance interface
Ripple marks

Evidence of Transport
No tree roots
No animal fossils
No soils

What about radio metric dating methods?

5 eruptions in 1949 to 1975 in New Zealand - those rocks were dated to be about 2.5 million years old.

St Helen rocks were dated to be 340,000 to 2.8 million years old - we saw them made 12 years prior.

Using radioisotope dating is using assumptions.

Romans 1:21-22 KJV
[21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. [22] Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Which authority do you believe?
Infallible word of holy god.
Vs
Fallible opinions of sinful men.

Most of the world does not believe the literal interpretation of the Bible.

The more you tell a lie often enough you will believe it.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 KJV
[4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Canyon Ministries river rafting

Matthew 24:37-39 KJV
[37] But as the days of Noe were , so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [38] For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, [39] And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

2 Peter 3:3-4 KJV

[3] Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, [4] And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Power to Change the World

Pastor Greg - July 27, 2014
Acts 1

God does not call to qualify, God qualifies the call.

What happens when you share the gospel and the person says yes? Then you pray with them right now!

You don't send them on their way without praying!

Acts 4:13 NLT
[13] The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

It's not what you know, it who you know. You personally know Jesus Christ.

When you are asked that question you don't know the answer, pray right there for the answer! Then it is possible that the word from God will come right from you to answer the question.

God empowered the disciples on the day of Pentecost. That same power is here for us today right now.

Is the world shaking us or are we shaking the world?

Acts 17:6 NLT
[6] Not finding them there, they dragged out Jason and some of the other believers instead and took them before the city council. "Paul and Silas have caused trouble all over the world," they shouted, "and now they are here disturbing our city, too.

It was quoted - Organized Christianity that fails to cause a disturbance is dead.

In the year 200, it was quoted - that Christians invaded all of the Roman world. It impacted every nook and cranny of the empire.

The stories in the Bible is the norm! What we have is not, we need to turn back to it.

To set the seen of the passages below; the people saw the Romans kill who they thought would become their king. He did come back after that and appeared in front of thousands of people over 40 days.

Acts 1:6 NLT
[6] So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, "Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?"

Jesus did not come to do that in a literal sense.

Are you missing something, not clearly understanding what God wants you to do?

Matthew 28:16-20 NLT
[16] Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. [17] When they saw him, they worshiped him-but some of them doubted! [18] Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. [19] Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. [20] Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Acts 1:8 NLT
[8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Power to live for your faith, die for you faith, live your faith and share your faith.

We often see things done in the name of the Holy Spirit that are just bizarre. Who are those people, why are they falsely doing that? Many of us think if that is the Holy Spirit, we don't want it. But that is not the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said the Holy Spirit is given to us to be a witness to Him.

The Bible says, don't quench the Spirit. Have you done that? It is when you are resisting the Spirit when it is on you to speak of your faith to someone and don't.

Greg says that could be a sin. It could be a sin of omission, because you are doing what you are supposed to do.

Acts 1:8 NLT
[8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

The word power in the scripture is defined as "explosive power" not political power to overcome Rome, but the power to speak the gospel.

Acts 2:1-6 NLT
[1] On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. [2] Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. [3] Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. [4] And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. [5] At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. [6] When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.

Nothing like this had ever happened before. This was a super natural action.

Should we expect this to happen today? Yes and no. The flames were most likely unique to that time.

Fire fighters today use "back fire" that is to start a fire to stop a fire, it is a controlled burn.

The Bible is not talking about a wild fire, but a controlled you.

You don't lose control when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you become in control. The Spirit become self control.

Acts 2:38-39 NLT
[38] Peter replied, "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. [39] This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles-all who have been called by the Lord our God."

Are you plugged in and turned on with the power of the Holy Spirit or are you unplugged and asking why it's not working.

What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit?

Ephesians 5:18-20 NLT
[18] Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, [19] singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. [20] And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

To be filled is translated in the way that wind fills a sail. It also is sometimes defined as being preserved and filled like salt preserves meat.

God's plan for evangelism is to start where you are.

John 4:34 NLT
[34] Then Jesus explained: "My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.

Some people want to cross the sea for Christ, you need to start by crossing the street.

John 11:22 NLT
[22] But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask."

God gives refills to us over and over again.

Acts 4:29-31 NLT
[29] And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. [30] Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus." [31] After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

God fills you, refills you, fills you and fills you some more.

Any clear thinking Christian wants all the power that God has for them.

Are you asking God for the Holy Spirit to fill you?

Let's Talk About Heaven

Pastor Greg Laurie - July 24, 2014
In Colossians 3

Talking about using his GPS and how it will nag if you don't follow it. Then he spoke about how GPS is naturally in birds.

He says he thinks God has built in us a little homing instinct that is heading us towards Heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
[11] Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end.

1 Chronicles 29:15 NLT
[15] We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace.

We are citizens of a different place, and we seem to feel it.

Today is the 6th anniversary of the day Greg lost his son in a car accident.

Philippians 3:20 NLT
[20] But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

“You formed us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in You.” —Augustine

A Christian never says, “goodbye,” but rather, “see you later.” That is the hope of a Christian.

Your depth of sorrow is an indicator of your depth of love.

Heaven becomes much more real to you when you have a loved one there.

Colossians 3:1-2 NLT
[1] Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. [2] Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Set your minds speaks of a diligent, active, single-minded investigation. Think Heaven and keep thinking about Heaven. Keep your feet on the ground and your mind in Heaven.

How can we be thinking about and seeking heaven?
Answer: From careful study of Scripture.

The Bible is the only source on Heaven.

Those who think the most of the next life, accomplish the most in this life.

Psalm 139:7-8 NLT
[7] I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! [8] If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.

Heaven is the dwelling place of God.

Our longing for heaven is really a longing for God Himself.
(Psalm 63:1)

Being with God is the heart and soul of Heaven.

Matthew 5:8 NLT
[8] God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

When you get to Heaven everything will make sense to you. You will know more in Heaven, not less. We will have a divine perspective.

1. What is heaven like?

John 14:2 NLT
[2] There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

Heaven is a real place, for real people, to do real things.

Heaven is described as a paradise.

2 Corinthians 12:2-4 NLT
[2] I was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I was in my body or out of my body, I don't know-only God knows. [3] Yes, only God knows whether I was in my body or outside my body. But I do know [4] that I was caught up to paradise and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is allowed to tell.

Heaven is described as a city.
(Hebrews 11:10 NLT
[10] Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God. & Hebrews 13:14 NLT
[14] For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.)

Heaven is described as a country.
(Hebrews 11:16 NLT
[16] But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.)

We tend to think of earth as the real thing and Heaven is the surreal thing. That is not in the Bible.

Romans 1:20 NLT
[20] For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Psalm 24:1 NLT
[1] The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.

No one can appreciate the creations of God more than the one who knows the creator.

For a Christian this is as bad as it will get and for the non-believer this is as good as it will be.

Matthew 6:28-29 NLT
[28] "And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, [29] yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.

1 Timothy 6:17 NLT
[17] Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.

Hebrews 8:5 NLT
[5] They serve in a system of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven. For when Moses was getting ready to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this warning: "Be sure that you make everything according to the pattern I have shown you here on the mountain."

What will our new heavenly bodies be like?

1 Corinthians 15:43-44 NLT
[43] Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. [44] They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.

Our resurrection bodies will resemble His.
(1 John 3:2 NLT
[2] Dear friends, we are already God's children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.)

2 Corinthians 5:1-2 NLT
[1] For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. [2] We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing.

2. What will we do in heaven?

In heaven, and on the new earth, we will be busy!

In heaven, we will eat together!
(Revelation 19:9 NLT
[9] And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." And he added, "These are true words that come from God.")

Matthew 8:11 NLT
[11] And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world-from east and west-and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven.

You will get to spend time with all the prophets of the Bible and ask them questions!

Colossians 3:5-10 NLT
[5] So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. [6] Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. [7] You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. [8] But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty [9] Don't lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. [10] Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.

1. Sexual sin will keep us earthbound.
(Colossians 3:5 NLT
[5] So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.)

The battle against any sin, especially sexual sin, begins in the mind.

2. Idolatry keeps us earthbound.

Anything that takes the place of God in your life.

To have More, when possessions posses you. Not just having something, but wanting even more.

3. Anger, meanness, and slander keep us earthbound.
(Colossians 3:8 NLT
[8] But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.)

Gossip is all around us.

The explosive power of a new affection. If you are seeking The Lord it will transform you.

“Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in; aim at earth, and you’ll get neither.” —C.S. Lewis

John 3:16 NLT
[16] "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Who gets to go to Heaven? Forgiven people!

You don’t go to heaven to find Christ; you go to Christ to find heaven!
