Notes: It is Finished
Pastor Greg
Laurie
Matthew 27
Harvest OC
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NKJV)
He has made everything beautiful
in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can
find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
God completes whatever he starts.
Seven statements at the cross.
1. Father forgive them they know
not what they do.
2. Today you will be with Me in
paradise.
3. Woman behold your son. Son
behold your mother.
4. Matthew 27:46 (NKJV)
And about the ninth hour Jesus
cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"
that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"
5. I thirst.
6. It is finished.
7. Into your hands I commit my
spirit.
"God treated Jesus as if he
had lived your life, so He could treat you as if you had lived his life."
Jesus never did a miracle for his
own benefit.
Jesus Christ was fully God and
fully man.
It is great to know we have a God
that knows what we are going through.
1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)
casting all your care upon Him,
for He cares for you.
Jesus does not focus on his pain,
but on the pain of others.
"Don't waste your
pain."
2 Corinthians 1:8-9 (NKJV)
For we do not want you to be
ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were
burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. [9]
Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in
ourselves but in God who raises the dead,
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (NKJV)
Blessed be the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, [4] who
comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who
are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by
God. [5] For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also
abounds through Christ.
It is finished is one Greek word,
Tetelestai.
He finished the job that He came
to do.
2. Finished was satan's stronghold
on humanity Hebrews 2:14 (NKJV)
Inasmuch then as the children
have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that
through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the
devil,
3. Finished was our salvation
Statement 7. Into Your hands I
commit My Spirit.
Matthew 27:51-54 (NKJV)
Then, behold, the veil of the
temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks
were split, [52] and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who
had fallen asleep were raised; [53] and coming out of the graves after His
resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. [54] So when
the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake
and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, "Truly this
was the Son of God!"
Hebrews 10:19-20 (NKJV)
Therefore, brethren, having
boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, [20] by a new and living
way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)
Let us therefore come boldly to
the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of
need.
Because of the death of Jesus I
can approach God at any time.
Matthew 27:51 (NKJV)
Then, behold, the veil of the
temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks
were split,
Mortal enemies can become friends
at the foot of the cross.

And the whole crowd who came
together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and
returned.

" Look to Me, and be saved,
All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

show his love for us.
Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV)
Husbands, love your wives, just
as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
John 3:16 (NKJV)
For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but
have everlasting life.
2. Jesus suffered and died to
absorb the wrath of God.
3. To cancel the legal
demands against us.
Colossians 2:13-14 (NKJV)
And you, being dead in your
trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together
with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, [14] having wiped out the
handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And
He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
4. Also to provide our forgiveness
and justification
Romans 5:9 (NKJV)
Much more then, having now been
justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
